Born in Sitia, Crete, on 9.11.1957

He is married to Maria Taliouri and has two sons.

Former employee of the Olympic Airways SA.

 PARLIAMENTARY ACTIVITY:

He was elected MP with PASOK, representing the area (“Nomos”) of Lassithi, Crete in the General Elections of 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009. 

In 1996 he was deprived of his parliamentary bench after an appeal to the Electoral Court.

During the last parliamentary term, he was elected member of PASOK Parliamentary Group Bureau, participated in the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Production and Commerce, in the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs and in the Special Permanent Committee on Regions.

He had been a member of the Parliament’s Investigation Committee on armament programmes, as well as Member of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodox Churh. He had, also, been Member of the Parliamentary Committees on Greek–Australian and Greek–Chilian Friendship.

He had been a member of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs.

 POLITICALSOCIAL ACTIVITIES:

He has been a member of PASOK since 1974 through the Partys Local Organization in Sitia.

On the 24th of September, 1990, during the 2nd PASOK Conference, he was elected member of the Central Committee, in which he participated up until its statutory modification into a National Conference, of which he is currently a de jure member, as a PASOK MP.

He had been a member of PASOKs Solidarity Sector (1984 – 1990), deputy secretary of PASOK’s Documentation Office (1990 - 1993) and Secretary of PASOK’s Solidarity and Social Policy Sector (1994 – 1996).

Between 1993 – 1995 he had served as a special adviser to former Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou.

Following PASOK’s Conference in 1999 he was appointed Deputy Secretary, responsible for the Agricultural Sector. He was also appointed member of the Executive Secretariat of PASOK by a common decision of the chairman of the party and the Party’s Executive Committee.

Between 2004-2007 he was the rapporteur of PASOK’s Parliamentary Working Sector on Defense issues, a sector where he had also served as a Coordinator of the Party’s Parliamentary Group.

From 2004 until his election at the party’s Political Council, he participated in the Documentation, Solidarity and Legal Coverage Sector’s Secretariat of PASOK with the aim to reveal and in other cases prevent corruption and prodigal administration by the Government of “New Democracy”.

 He was elected member of the Political Council and was appointed by the President of PASOK with the following areas of responsibility;

Ø  Monitoring the Government of “New Democracy” in the field of public resources’ management and transparency, through the Documentation Committee of PASOK.

Ø  National Defense Issues

Ø  Volunteers and Solidarity Sector, and the Human Rights’ Connected Networks, European Citizens, Immigrants, ROM, North-Epirotes and other connected Networks.

 After PASOK’s victory in the General Elections of 4th, October 2009, he was assigned by the Prime Minister George A. Papandreou as the Deputy Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

 STUDIES:

Political Science at the Law School of the University of Athens.

Postgraduate Degree on Regional Development at Panteion University.
